DA case: Jagan's CBI custody to end today

Hyderabad, June 7 (ANI): The five-day custody of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on May 27 in a disproportionate assets case, will end today.

Reddy has been lodged in the Chanchalguda Jail in Hyderabad where the investigating agency is questioning him. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had last week given his custody to CBI till June 7.

Reddy was questioned for the fourth time by the CBI on Wednesday about the flow of investments into Jagati Publications, Indira Television and Janani Infrastructure Pvt Ltd - promoted and owned him and also about the land and buildings in the name of these three firms.

Earlier, Jagan's mother Vijayamma wrote to Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi to direct the CBI to release her son in the larger interest of democracy.

She has pointed out in her letter that the CBI arrested Jagan on May 27, just 15 days before the by-polls.

"I am writing this letter with a great hope that you would kindly intervene with the CBI, which has, in complete disregard to the fact that Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, is leading the campaign on behalf of his Party for the upcoming bye-elections to 18 Assembly segments and one MP seat in our State, have arrested him most undemocratically on 27-5-2012, just 15 days before the bye-elections as part of a larger conspiracy to deprive his participation in the elections with the sole objective of helping the ruling Congress candidates," said Vijayamma.

Before the arrest, Jagan said it was a conspiracy by the ruling Congress and the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to create a law and order situation to postpone the June by-elections.

Jagan is accused of conspiring with his father to dole out favours to companies that invested in his businesses in a quid pro quo arrangement. (ANI)
