London, June 7 (ANI): Ex-England manager Sven Goran Eriksson has said that Roy Hodgson's main men in the England team are going to serve as the main key to break the jinx of never being able to win an opening match.
The Swede believes that Hodgson's senior players, Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Ashley Cole have to prove once again that they are Lions and not lambs over the crucial days and hours before battle is joined in the Donbass Arena.
In seven European Championships, dating back to 1968, England have never won a single opening match, drawing three and losing four
"I'm sure even the likes of David Beckham, John Terry and Frank Lampard will tell you that their thoughts were elsewhere with days to go until the Euros or the World Cup," the Daily Mirror quoted Eriksson, as saying.I've seen it up close. They'll do everything they can to try to keep it within themselves, but it is not easy," he added.
Hodgson's injury-hit and controversy-riven squad, who have landed in Krakow, will have to dig deep over the next month to change perceptions of the national team.
To begin their quest for glory with a victory over France in Donetsk on Monday, the Three Lions will have to do what no England side has done it ever before. (ANI)
