Port of Spain (Trinidad), June 6 (IANS/CMC) David Williams, overlooked for the post of West Indies assistant coach, has been appointed head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago.
The 48-year-old, who played 11 Tests and 36 One-Day Internationals (ODI) between 1992 and 1996, replaces namesake Kelvin Williams who will now serve as assistant coach, reports Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).
His first major assignment is expected to be the T-20 Champions League in India, scheduled for October.
David Williams held the post of T&T head coach up to 2008 when he resigned to take up the position as assistant to then West Indies head coach, Australian John Dyson.
He was the officiating coach of West Indies on the one-day tour of Australia in February, 2010, following Dyson's departure before Ottis Gibson took over for Zimbabwe's tour immediately thereafter.
David Williams continued as assistant coach on a tour-by-tour basis until March this year when he was replaced by Englishman Toby Radford.
A former West Indies wicketkeeper, Williams will be in charge of the T&T youth side for the regional Under-19 Championship in July-August before taking up the senior team post.
