'Osama spent all his money on attacks against West, serving guests good food': Zawahiri

London, June 4 (ANI): Osama bin Laden spent all his personal wealth on attacks against the West and serving his guests good food, Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has said in an online video.

In a new video, Zawahiri, who became the terror group's leader after bin Laden's killing in a CIA raid just over a year ago, recalled his predecessor's meagre comforts.

"When you entered his house you would be surprised. It was a very simple house, with some wooden beds and plastic coverings and very little furniture," Zawahiri said in the video titled 'Days with the imam, Part Two'.

"If the Sheikh invited us to his house, he would give us what he had in the way of bread, vegetables, rice - whatever was available he would give us," he added.

Zawahiri also said that bin Laden 'spent all his money on jihad,' The Telegraph reports.

He further revealed bin Laden had given 50,000 dollars to help finance bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed over 200 people in 1998.

"At the time, he had no more than 55,000 dollars to his name," Zawahiri added.

According to the paper, Zawahiri said that despite his austere way of life, bin Laden was a generous host and once bought a whole herd of sheep to feed his frequent visitors in Afghanistan.

"He was known for his generosity with guests. He would slaughter livestock for them and give them tasty food," he added. (ANI)
