Abu Dhabi, June 3 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will provide food aid worth 500 million dirhams (about $136 million) to the Yemeni people.

This follows President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's order Sunday in line with UAE's brotherly feelings towards the Yemeni people and out of his keenness to alleviate their sufferings.

President Sheikh Khalifa has assigned the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation to buy the food items from the local markets in Yemen to stimulate that country's economy and revive the local markets.

This includes rice, sugar, cooking oil, baby milk, canned food and other basic items of daily use.

The president has also ordered providing the assistance directly to the Yemeni people by establishing distribution outlets in different regions of that country.
