London, June 3 (ANI): Robin Gibb's son has opened up about his heartbreaking goodbye to the Bee Gees star and how he put his mobile on his father's chest to play one of his songs.

The singer died last month at 62 after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Robin John Gibb, known as RJ, held his father's hand as his mother Dwina clutched the other when he passed away while his brother Spencer and sister Melissa looked on.

They returned to say a final goodbye and it was then that RJ listened to classic 1968 Bee Gees hit 'I Started A Joke' on his phone and realised it was perfect for Robin's send-off.

"When he passed away we went out, they took the equipment away and we came back in," the 29-year-old told The Sun.

"I picked up my phone and found 'I Started A Joke' on YouTube and played it. I put the phone on his chest and that was the first time I broke down. I knew that song and its lyrics were perfect for that moment. That song will always have new meaning to me now.

"A couple of days later I was at our favourite restaurant and 'I Started A Joke' came on the radio the exact time he died, 10.46pm. I cried that time too, but in a different way.

"If you listen to the lyrics I finally died, which started the whole world living, that goes with dad's spirit that the show must go on. It will definitely be played at the funeral," he stated.

The paper also revealed that one of Gibb's most recent works 'Don't Cry Alone', from the Titanic Requiem he wrote with RJ will be played at his funeral too.

The song is also being released to raise cash for the Bomber Command Memorial.

Gibb helped to start the campaign to honour servicemen killed in World War II.

RJ also revealed how he found comfort in his dad's music.

"When I hear my father's songs it's always a joy. It's amazing that even though he's gone I'll always have his beautiful voice there to hear," he added. (ANI)
