Patients wanting cosmetic surgery urged to undergo mental health checks
London, May 30 (ANI): More than half of the entire UK population is grappling with mental and physical problems relating to negative body image, according to a parliamentary report published on Wednesday.
Patients who wish to go under the knife would have to undergo rigorous mental health checks under shock new recommendations.
People of Britain now put looks before their health, fuelling a rise in mental illness and anorexia, according to the report.
Both men and women can suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder. They may think their busts, bottoms or thighs are too big or too small, the Sun reported.
Sufferers often think surgery will cure the problem, but it is a psychological illness and many leave the clinic wanting more unnecessary operations.
The report, by MPs and charity Central YMCA, urges psychological checks for cosmetic surgery patients.
Its report also calls for a ban on ads and special offers by clinics. (ANI)
