London, May 25 (ANI): The first athlete to break a world record in the London Olympic Stadium, had suffered two cardiac arrests when she was born, which caused brain and nerve damage to her spine, legs and feet.
Doctors told Hannah Cockroft's parents that she wouldn't live to see her 20s, but she refused to let herself be held back and is already writing herself into the history books.
"I don't think I've done too badly for a girl who the doctors said would never walk, talk or do anything for herself," she said recently.
"They told my parents I'd never be able to do anything my whole life and wouldn't live past my teenage years. But I don't like people telling me what to do," she had said.
The determined teen is now a double world champion in the 100m and 200m T34 Paralympic categories and a multiple world record holder.
Wheelchair racer Cockroft is the rising star of the Paralympic world.
The 19-year-old from Halifax, West Yorks, is looking forward to when the Paralympic Games are finished - so she can spend more time with her family and friends.
"Because of this year being so special with what's happening, there's just no time to be a normal teenager at the -moment," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.
"There are less than 100 days to go now until they start, so everything is based around that and all the work that still has to be done.
"But at the same time, I like to be with my friends - when I'm in the country anyway - and I like to go -shopping and do all the normal things that teenagers do. When it's all over I'm looking -forward to being a normal teenager for three weeks, before my training starts up all over again!" she said.
She will be racing in the 100m and 200m this summer, and is a hot tip to be one of the pin-up girls for the -British Paralympics team.
A huge music fan, who admits she has an obsession with McFly, having seen them live eight times, -Hannah was -delighted with the news that rockers Coldplay are headlining the Paralympics closing ceremony on September 9.
"Coldplay are a pretty big band," she said.
"Everyone knows who Coldplay are, so it's cool to have them connected to the Paralympic Games because it means more people will want to come and watch.
"The tickets have been selling really well, so it will be great to have the stands full - even if it is a little scary," she said.
On being\asked what her ideal post-Paralympics celebration would be, she laughs: "Two gold medals, and a party with McFly!"
This week, BT Ambassador Hannah was -competing at the BT Paralympic World Cup in -Manchester, the biggest annual -disability multi-sport event in the world. (ANI)
