Chinese couple held for burying woman alive

Beijing, May 24 (IANS) A Chinese couple has been detained after they got drunk and knocked down an elderly woman and later buried her alive.

It was certain the woman was not dead when buried, as medical experts found soil particles in her lungs, which indicated she was still breathing, a public security official told China Daily.

Police in Yuyao in Zhejiang province found a car without license plates abandoned at a construction site. Cracks were found on the windshield. The corpse of an elderly woman was found buried in the mud nearby.

A witness told police he saw an elderly woman lying on the ground. A man and a woman got out of the car and put the woman inside the vehicle, saying they would take her to hospital.

The woman was identified as 68-year-old Fang.

The couple, both aged 25, were captured in Liupanshui city of Guizhou province.

Police said the two were in a karaoke bar all night before the accident.
