Karachi, May 24 (ANI): The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is all set to file a Constitutional petition against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for continuing to hold office despite being convicted for contempt of court by the Supreme Court.
Jamal Siddiqui, PTI senior media coordinator, said the petition would be submitted in the Sindh High Court on Thursday, reports The Express Tribune.
PTI General Secretary Dr Arif Alvi, and PTI Sindh president Sardar Nadir Akmal Khan Leghari will jointly file the petition.
Gilani has faced pressure to forego the seat of prime minister after he was convicted, by which, parties argue, he stands automatically disqualified from the National Assembly and hence cannot hold the office of the prime minister.
Gilani, however, argues that he can only be disqualified if the Speaker of the National Assembly deems that his offence disqualifies him, or is declared as such by the Election Commission. (ANI)
