London, May 23(ANI): Manchester City released former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves on Tuesday at the end of his one-year contract, and the injury-plagued player is now looking for a new club to play for.
Hargreaves played 13 minutes of Premier League football with City. He made only four appearances, just over two-and-a-half hours of action following City's surprise move to sign him on as a free agent last summer.
Hargreaves posted video clips of himself training on You Tube to prove his fitness last year, and City had hoped they could salvage the career of a player who cost United 18 million pounds from Bayern Munich in 2007, The Daily Mail reports.
The highlight of Hargreaves' short tenure at the Etihad Stadium came in September when he scored a stunning goal against Birmingham in the Carling Cup.
He then forced Sir Alex Ferguson to mount a vehement defence of his medical team by claiming that he was treated like 'a guinea pig' at United.
Although his knees held up reasonably well, other niggling injuries like a calf strain in October left him unable to train or perform at the level required. (ANI)
