Lucknow, May 21 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has assured that stringent action would be taken to tackle law and order violations in the state.
"As far as law and order is concerned the Samajwadi Party (government) will act with greater responsibilities. Whosoever violates the law and order, action would be taken against him," Yadav told media on the sidelines of a workshop here.
Slamming former state Chief Minister Mayawati for building parks and erecting her statues on the government's prime land, Yadav alleged that corruption in various fields of activity was slowly coming out in the open.
"Slowly the quantum of the scam is coming to fore. We had promised in our manifesto that it would be probed. The (previous) government has been punished. Nearly 3,000 workers were deployed to clean up memorials; what is wrong if we deployed them for city cleanliness. Now the money, which was being spent on statues, would be spent on development," he said.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rita Bahuguna has claimed that the law and order situation in the state is worrisome.
"The law and order situation is very worrisome in Uttar Pradesh. The fear of environment still persists and people are scared. There is not much difference between the current and previous administration. On this front, the new chief minister needs to take stringent action," Joshi told reporters in New Delhi.
Akhilesh Yadav, the son of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh, was elected as Uttar Pradesh chief minister after the party achieved a spectacular victory in assembly polls held in March.
However, over the past two months cases of 800 murders, 270 rapes, 245 robberies and 256 kidnappings have been recorded in the state. (ANI)
