Delhi HC blow to ND Tiwari, asks to furnish blood sample by May 26

New Delhi, May 21 (ANI): The Delhi High Court (HC) on Monday asked veteran Congressman N.D.Tiwari to appear before it in person on May 26 to give blood sample for a DNA test to verify whether he is the biological father of 32-year-old Rohit Shekhar, as claimed by the latter.

Announcing the order, Joint Registrar of Delhi High Court, Deepak Garg, said, "Defendant number 1 (Tiwari) is directed to appear on May 26 at 12 noon along with his two photographs," adding that the court whould not rush to take police assistance for enforcing its order.

The court observed that 86-year-old Tiwari "be given an opportunity to voluntarily comply with the order," and asked the medical chief of the dispensary, located inside the high court premises, to appoint a doctor for collecting the blood sample on May 26.

The high court had, earlier asked Tiwari to inform it as to whether he would voluntarily give his blood sample, or should police force be used to obtain it.

The court had also prohibited Tiwari from leaving the country till he provides his blood sample.

The former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister was earlier directed by the high court and the Supreme Court to furnish his blood sample for the DNA test.

The court's direction came after it was informed that the requisite DNA kit has been received by the high court registry from Hyderabad-based lab Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD). (ANI)
