Jailed ex-Israeli president freed for seven hours
Tel Aviv, May 21 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Jailed former Israeli president Moshe Katsav convicted of raping a former female employee was freed for seven hours Sunday to attend his son's wedding.
Katsav has been in jail for five and a half months and will have to return to Maasiyahu Prison in the city of Ramle. Katsav was granted a seven-hour leave after he was examined by a psychiatrist and was found not dangerous, Kol Israel radio station reported.
The former head of state was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of raping two of his subordinates, sexual harassment, indecent behaviour and attempts to interfere with the investigation. Katsav, 66, insists on his innocence and calls himself a victim of political witch hunt.
