London, May 20 (ANI): BBC cricket correspondent and former England cricketer Jonathan Agnew has announced that he has quit Twitter citing that he can't tolerate or accept the level of abuse that takes place on the social networking site.

The test match special commentator arrived at the decision after clashing with writer Ian Martin, the Daily Mirror reports.

Agnew, who has about 163,926 followers on Twitter, confirmed his decision to quit the social networking site last night.

"Sorry, but I now retire from Twitter. Been fun and met nice people. But too much abuse," Agnew, nicknamed Aggers, wrote.

In a post on his Twitter page, Agnew accused Martin, The Thick Of It writer, of indulging in a "vile tirade".

Martin had posted several tweets that seemingly criticised the Test Match Special team during yesterday's play.t promoted fans of the legendary radio commentary to take to Twitter themselves to back Agnew and his colleagues.

In response, Martin tweeted: "Dear TMS fans: massive thank you for your advice, but I'll continue to love TMS AND take the f***ing p***, cheers."

One TMS fan, Mark Murphy, tweeted: "Shocked by some of the stuff i've been reading on here about Test Match Special. If you don't like a radio show..., don't listen." (ANI)
