New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) It was a hot day in the capital Thursday with partly cloudy skies and the maximum temperature settling a notch above average at 38.2 degrees Celsius. The met office has forecast similar weather Friday.

The day's minimum temperature was 27.3 degrees, a notch above average, while the humidity levels wavered between a high of 40 and a low of 28 percent.

A dust storm in the morning brought down visibility to 400 metres at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), affecting flights.

"A 60 km per hour wind between 4.30-7.30 a.m. brought with it a lot of dust. The visibility dropped to 400 metres," said Rajendra Jenamani, India Meteorological Department director (IGI Airport), attributing the dust storm to Wednesday's heat which had soared to 42 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said the dust will remain in the air for the next three days and the skies would be be partly cloudy Friday but without any possibility of rain.

The maximum and minimum temperature will hover around 40 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday's maximum temperature was recorded at 42 degrees Celsius, three notches above average, while the minimum settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius.
