London, May 17(ANI): Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie's talks with the club hierarchy, which are understood to be quite tense and tetchy over signing a contract extension concluded without any agreement.

The break down in talks between Van Persie and Arsenal could prompt Manchester City to seize the initiative, and try to lure the Dutch international at the Etihad Stadium.

The Gunners had hoped to persuade Van Persie to agree to a lucrative new three-year deal worth 130,000 pounds a week that would see off interest from City and keep him at the Emirates.

According to the Sun, Arsenal is willing to play the hard ball if Van Persie does not sign a contract extension, and will make him see out the last year of his current deal.

The Dutchman hit 37 goals for the Gunners this season and was named both PFA and Football Writers' Player of the Year. (ANI)
