SRK will be called for inquiry only after verification of application: Mumbai Police

Mumbai , Thu, 17 May 2012 ANI

Mumbai, May 17 (ANI): Mumbai Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Iqbal Shaikh on Thursday said a probe of the incident involving Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan at the Wankhede Stadium is being done, and added that the Bollywood actor will be called for inquiry only after the contents of the application are verified.

"Mr. Nitin Dalal, the honorary Secretary of MCA, he has lodged a written complaint by way of application late last night against Shah Rukh Khan, Morani brothers and his associates for misbehaving with them, abusing them, threatening them and manhandling the security guard and using filthy language against some female," said Shaikh.

""We will verify the contents of the application. And after what it transpires, thereafter as per the inquiry we will call him if necessary," he added, when asked whether Shah Rukh Khan would be called during the inquiry into the matter.

When asked why was not a medical test conducted on Shah Rukh Khan if all the events took place in a drunken state, Shaikh said: "Whether he (Shah Rukh Khan) was drunk or not that we will see. See, it does not absolve anybody whether he is drunk or otherwise.

Shaikh further said that he had to intervene last night, as the situation was taking an ugly turn.

"I came to that place at a later stage. I separated him because the situation was taking an ugly turn," he said.

To a poser on whether Shah Rukh Khan was drunk at that stage, Shaikh said: "He was smelling of alcohol."

"Smelling is not an offence. He was not drinking there," he added, when asked about the Bollywood actor not being taken for a medical checkup despite the fact that there was manhandling and he was smelling.

When asked to throw light on the complaint lodged against Shah Rukh Khan, Shaikh said: "Shah Rukh's kids had also accompanied him. They were playing on the ground. The security guards present there asked them to leave the spot, as it was too late. Shah Rukh Khan did not like it. He took it very offensively and he started abusing, threatening the MCA officials. Even the BCCI officials were also present there."

"We are not concerned about the provocation. We are only concerned about the act," he added, when asked whether Shah Rukh was provoked by MCA officials

The scuffle happened last night when the actor and his entourage were stopped from going on to the ground after the match, which the Kolkata Knight Riders won.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which has lodged a police complaint into the matter, is also considering imposing a ban on Shah Rukh Khan from the Wankhede Stadium. (ANI)
