Herat (Afghanistan), May 17 (Xinhua-ANI): All four attackers were killed after they stormed the provincial governor's office in the western Afghan province of Farah Thursday morning, police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said.
"Four terrorists attacked the governor's office in provincial capital Farah city at 10:30 a.m. local time but police in rapid reaction killed all the four," Ahmadi told Xinhua.
In the gun battle which lasted for two hours, five police and one civilian were also killed and 12 others including three police and nine civilians were wounded, he said.
Another official said on the condition of anonymity that two to four people armed with light arms and suicide bomb vests entered the office of governor in Farah city, adding that two explosions were also heard in the area.
Ahmadi blamed the enemies of peace, a reference to Taliban militants, for carrying out the attack, but the outfit fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops has yet to make comment. (Xinhua-ANI)
