Assad vows to display 'captured foreign mercenaries'

Damascus, May 17 (ANI): Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has promised to display captured 'foreign mercenaries' who, he says, have been fighting for the opposition groups in the country.

Assad claimed that his regime has captured them during an interview on Russian state television's news channel Rossiya-24.

"There are foreign mercenaries, some of them still alive," News24 quoted Assad, as saying.

"They are being detained and we are preparing to show them to the world," he added.

He said religious extremists and Al-Qaeda members from abroad are among the forces fighting his government.

According to the report, Assad also complained that Western countries voice protests against violence by his regime's forces, but not by the opposition fighters. (ANI)
