Congress hails UP CM Akhilesh's plan to probe scams during Mayawati's rule

New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): Congress Party on Wednesday welcomed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's plan of probing the scams, which took place during his predecessor Mayawati's tenure.

Congress leader P L Punia said that a proper and effective probe should be conducted to know Mayawati's alleged role in the scams during her tenure as Uttar Pradesh chief minister, including the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam that claimed many lives including those of two chief medical officers.

"See, Akhilesh Yadav is the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and if he is saying all this then I think he must be saying all this with great authority, responsibility after examining the matter. I would advise him to investigate the matter in depth," said Punia.

"Proper investigation should be done in the scams of Noida, Greater Noida and the loot done by the previous government," he added.

Punia said that Mayawati's brother Anand Kumar should also be probed, as he too was involved in scams.

Punia further said that Mayawati's involvement in the land scams of Noida and Greater Noida is a clear indication of her corruption.

"Her brother collected money in Noida and such was his clout that not even an inch of land from the Noida authority could be given to anyone without Mayawati's approval. So, it is a clear indication of her corruption," he said.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said that all scams should be investigated, and added that Akhilesh Yadav would comment on this matter further.

Akhilesh Yadav had earlier on Tuesday claimed that the erstwhile Mayawati Government was involved in a scam worth Rs.40, 000 crore in the construction of parks and memorials in Lucknow and Noida.

He said while the police was investigating the scam, which was committed between 2007 and 2011, there was every possibility that the people in the government also siphoned public money. (ANI)
