YSR Congress demands probe into cash in Chiranjeevi's kin's house

Hyderabad , Tue, 15 May 2012 ANI

Hyderabad, May 15 (ANI): YSR Congress Party on Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the huge money being traced at the house of actor-politician Chiranjeevi's kin, and alleged that there was a quid pro quo in the process of PRP merger with Congress.

"The finding of over Rs 35 crores in the house of Chiranjeevi's daughter's house needs to be probed thoroughly and the Rajya Sabha member should volunteer for a CBI inquiry. We contend that this amount and much more, stashed away elsewhere, could be the return favour PRP got for merging with Congress," YSR Congress Party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma told mediapersons here.

Vasireddy Padma said Chiranjeevi's tour to Delhi and his meeting with Vayalar Ravi further justifies the YSR Congress Party's apprehension

"In what capacity did he meet Ravi if not for a cover-up bid. Chiranjeevi is not the Chief Minister, he is not the State Congress President and is not even the in-charge of Tirupati assembly seat. The obvious conclusion could be that he went for lobbying," Padma said.

"We demand that there should be an inquiry into the incident as to where from such a large sum in cash has come from and why was it hidden. The in-laws of Chiranjeevi's daughter are not known to be so rich as to keep such a huge amount in the house. They have overdrawn amount from four banks, which shows their financial position," she said.

Padma further said : "The amount being found and the subsequent meeting of Chiranjeevi with Vayalar Ravi could appear like two independent and loose ends but the binding force is the PRP-Congress merger and the quid pro quo. We demand that there should be an inquiry into the incident or Chiranjeevi should come forward to prove his innocence."

"Some of the Congress leaders trying to cover up the incident terming it as insignificant one also paves way for the suspicion of a secret deal PRP had for merging with Congress. At least the pact and its terms should be made public," she said.

"Vested interests and a section of media, which ignored such a major incident, have been trying to pick up holes and links with the family members of the YSR to persons arrested on charges of murder," she said.

According to reports, cartons stuffed with Rs. 35 crore in cash were found at the Chennai residence of Chiranjeevi's daughter Sushmita.

Chiranjeevi's son-in-law, Vishnu Prasad, had come under the income tax net with IT sleuths conducting raids on his business and residential premises in the city for close to two days. (ANI)
