New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Hours after a Delhi court granted bail to former Telecom Minister A. Raja who is facing trial in the 2G spectrum case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said the law is taking its own course, but emphasized that action should also be taken now against other big names involved in the scam.
BJP spokesperson Shahanawaz Hussain said the 2G spectrum scam case doesn't get over with Raja getting bail.
"The law is doing its work. So far, the investigation on the 2G spectrum scam is not complete. We believe that Raja is a small fish, but many bigger fishes are still to be caught in this (2G scam). We are still discussing this issue in the Parliament. This case doesn't end with Raja getting bail," said Hussain.
"This case will get stronger on the front that those people, who have so far escaped, those who are equally guilty in this crime, action should also be taken against them very soon. The Bharatiya Janata Party wants the probe to reach its final destination. And part from Raja, the people who have so far escaped they should also be caught for this," he added.
Hussain, however, refused to comment on the court's decision in this case.
"As far as the bail is concerned, this is the work of the court. We don't want to comment on the decision of the court," he said.
Raja got bail after spending over 15 months in jail for his alleged role in the 2G scam.
The timing of seeking bail is being seen as significant, as Raja waited till all other accused had been granted bail, before putting in his request for bail on grounds of "principle of parity."
However, the bail is conditional as Raja cannot visit his hometown without first taking the court's permission. He will also have to furnish two sureties of Rs 10 lakh each before he can be released.
The DMK MP had filed the bail plea on the ground that he should be treated in parity with the other 13 accused, all of whom have been granted relief by the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court and the special court trying the case.
Raja had filed the application soon after former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, who was arrested along with him on February 2 last year, was granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Raja, in his bail plea, had contended that he is "innocent" and the case against him is "false and fabricated".
Besides Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Behura, Raja's former private secretary R K Chandolia , Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka, Unitech Limited MD Sanjay Chandra and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group executives Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair are facing trial in the case.
