Infighting intensifies within CPM ranks, Achuthanandan hits out at Vijayan
Thiruvananthapuram, May 12(ANI): Exposing growing dissent with Communist Party of India-Marxist in southern Kerala, veteran leader V.S. Achuthanandan took on party secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday for making 'derogatory' remarks against slain faction member, T.P. Chandrasekharan.
Vijayan had recently kicked up a storm when he dubbed Chandrasekharan, a former CPM leader, a 'traitor,' following the latter's cold-blooded murder.
Extending solidarity with Chandrasekharan-who was known to be close to Achuthanandan-the CPM heavyweight, strongly condemned Vijayan' remarks.
"He (Pinarayi Vijayan) should not have used such words for the recently murdered party leader T P Chandrasekharan. I came to know through the media that he had made certain derogatory remarks against Chandrasekharan," Achuthanandan said at a news conference here.
He asserted that the CPM did not endorse Vijayan's opinions.
"The Communist Party of India-Marxist is not like the Congress party and the Muslim factions. In our party, there is a different way of forming a collective opinion on issues. We debate views through intense ideological discussions at party meetings. That is why, Vijayan's opinions are not the CPM's views," Achuthanandan said.
Chandrasekharan was an active member of the CPM till he quit in 2008. He later formed the Revolutionary Marxist Party in Kerala's Onchiyam district, following certain ideological clashes with senior CPM leaders.
Achuthanandan's scathing remarks against Vijayan signal a growing divide and rift within the CPM leadership in Kerala on critical political, social and ideological issues. (ANI)
