Washington, May 11 (ANI): Eva Longoria is convinced that she was destined to act in 'Desperate Housewives' because she landed the job the day after losing out to Eva Mendes for Will Smith's romantic comedy 'Hitch'.
The 37-year-old actress tried out to play Smith's love interest, gossip columnist Sara Melas, in the film back in 2004, but was crushed to learn she didn't get the part.
However, Longoria insists things had a way of working themselves out as the next day, she booked her gig as Gabrielle Solis on the hit TV drama 'Desperate Housewives', a show which ultimately launched her career.
"I auditioned for Hitch... with Eva Mendes and she ended up getting it and I didn't and the next day I got Desperate Housewives," Contactmusic quoted her as saying on Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday.
"So had I gotten that (part in Hitch), I wouldn't have been on this amazing run," she said.
Golden Globe-winning series 'Desperate Housewives', which premiered in America in the autumn of 2004, is set to wrap up its eighth and final season on Sunday, May 13. (ANI)
