China strongly condemns bombings in Syria
Beijing, May 11 (Xinhua-ANI): China strongly condemns the two recent terrorist bombings in the Syrian capital of Damascus, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Friday.
Hong made the remarks at a regular press briefing, adding that China is opposed to all forms of terrorism and violence. He also conveyed China's deep sympathies to the families of the victims.
At least 55 people were killed and 370 others wounded in the two suicide bombings that shook an intelligence complex in Damascus on Thursday.
Hong said there is currently a significant opportunity for a political resolution to the Syria issue. China called upon all parties in Syria to effectively implement their commitment to a ceasefire, stop the violence in the country and immediately and comprehensively implement the resolutions of the UN Security Council as well as UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy Kofi Annan's six-point proposal.
The international community should firmly oppose any terrorist attack or action that breaks the ceasefire and make joint efforts to ease the tension and promote the political resolution of the Syria issue, the spokesman added. (Xinhua-ANI)
