Cleanliness drive launched to restore Naini's glory

Nainital, May 11(ANI): A cleanliness drive to restore the Naini Lake was organized by the district administration here.

Scores of students participated in the initiative to remove garbage and sewage from the lake, and they said it was their responsibility to keep the city and the lake clean.

"Being a native of Nainital, it is our duty to clean the lake. If we are living here, if we are enjoying all the pleasures of the city then on the other hand it is our duty to clean it also," Parinita, a student, said.

District Magistrate Nidhi Mani Tripathi said the administration would organise a human chain on May 20 to increase awareness among the people.

"We have started the campaign for 10 days under which we are cleaning the lake from 8 in the morning and we will also hold various competitions for the students. We are planning to form a human chain on 20th May so that we can make people aware and conscious that this cleaning campaign is not just a campaign but is a continuous process," said Tripathi.

As a part of the campaign, volunteers collected garbage in boats and unloaded it at the lakeside from where it was reloaded in a garbage van for disposal. (ANI)
