Gajapati (Odisha), May 10(ANI): The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has launched a 'Civic Action Programme' to effectively combat Maoist threat and bridge the gap between the villagers and security personnel.

Under the programme, the CRPF personnel distributed medicines and other essential commodities to villagers and sports and stationery products to students in Paniganda village of Gajapati district.

The Commandant of 127-D Battalion, Joginder Singh said they have organised the programme to help the tribals.

"Under this programme, we would provide free medicines and medical check up to villagers. In addition to this, we are providing cycles and solar lights for their homes. We are also providing them with cricket items and other sports goods," said Singh.

He appreciated the central government for providing the CRPF with an opportunity to serve the villagers.

"We are doing this as the Indian government provides us with an opportunity to work for the public and we do this work from the bottom of our heat. We love the people of Paniganda and Odisha. We want them to progress and develop and become good leaders of the country," added Singh.

The former village head, Jalandhar Behera welcomed the programme and said that it would help to bridge the gap between the personnel and the locals of the village.

"This programme has been organised to bridge the gap between the police personnel and public and secondly to improve the health and education of the tribals in this area," said Behera. (ANI)
