Briton charged with planning Kenya bombings
London, May 10 (IANS) A 29-year-old Muslim Briton has been accused of planning bomb attacks in Kenya on behalf of Al Qaeda-linked terror outfit al-Shabab.
Jermaine Grant, a resident of London, was brought before a judge in Mombasa Wednesday, the Daily Express reported Thursday.
Grant is already in jail for entering Kenya illegally.
He faces charges of possessing bomb-making equipment and planning to make an explosive device with the intention of causing loss of life.
Grant, who was arrested in December, denies all charges.
Grant is said to be an associate of Samantha Lewthwaite, the fugitive wife of London suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay.
Kenyan police are looking for the 28-year-old Lewthwaite, after finding her travel documents during a terror raid. Officials believe she is in hiding to help raise funds for al-Shabab.
Her husband, a Jamaican-born Muslim convert, was one of four suicide bombers who killed 52 people in the July 2005 attack on London's transport network.
According to British think-tank Royal United Services Institute, at least 50 of about 200 foreign fighters allied with al-Shabab are Britons.
