Pakistan to participate in NATO summit in Chicago despite strained ties with US

Islamabad, May 7 (ANI): In spite of strained relations with the United States, Pakistan has decided to participate in the NATO summit to be held in Chicago to discuss the future of Afghanistan, sources said.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari along with a delegation would attend the moot, which is scheduled to begin from May 20.

According to sources, Pakistan has agreed to take part in the summit on the special invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama, reports the Daily Times.

Pakistan's decision to take part in the summit was made in a recent meeting, said sources. Initially, Zardari had instructed Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to represent the country in the moot, but due to a delay in the Supreme Court's detailed judgment in the contempt of court case against Gilani, the president decided to attend the meeting himself.

Sources revealed that Zardari would also meet Obama during the visit and request for financial aid to strengthen the country's economy.

India has also been invited to the summit. (ANI)
