New Zealand boxer dies after collapsing 32 seconds into professional debut

Wellington, May 7 (ANI): A New Zealand boxer, who was making his professional debut, died after collapsing 32 seconds into the fight in Tahiti.

The French Polynesia Boxing Federation confirmed that Willman Rodriguez Gomez had died in a Papeete hospital an hour after he was admitted to the hospital on Friday, Sydney Morning Herald reports.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that it was aware about the death of a New Zealand citizen in Tahiti.

The New Zealand Consulate-General in New Caledonia is communicating with the consul in Tahiti to help Rodriguez Gomez's family get information on repatriation arrangements.

The spokesperson said the staff is also providing consular assistance to the family.

The 29-year-old lightweight fighter had to fight Tahitian Karihi Tehei at the Ah-min Boxing Club in Papeete. (ANI)
