Unable to get married, Lucknow lovers hang themselves

Lucknow, May 5 (IANS) After having failed to convince their families into agreeing to their marriage, a young couple committed suicide here Saturday.

The tragedy occurred in the Kasimpur village of Goasiganj area in the state capital.

On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday the boy, 17-year-old Santram was alone in his house when his lover, Reeta Rawat came to meet him. Something transpired between them and they bolted the house from inside and hung themselves in one single noose made out of the girl's dupatta.

As soon as the news of the double suicide spread, hundreds of villagers rushed to the spot and police had a tough time keeping them off the crime scene. Police took possession of the bodies and sent them for autopsy. Cops also said that no suicide note was recovered from the suicide scene.
