India has toughened stance on Siachen, says Kayani

Gayari, Fri, 04 May 2012 ANI

Gayari, May 4 (ANI): Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Kayani has said that India has toughened its stance on the Siachen dispute.

General Kayani was on his third visit to the Gayari Sector, where in early April, a massive avalanche in the region had claimed the lives of 129 Pakistani soldiers, reviving criticism of the 28-year conflict over the glacier, which critics say is futile.

General Kayani said India had been demanding approval of Line of Control but now it had started asking for re-determination of positions, reports the Daily Times.

According to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the satellite data link has also become operational, which would allow the real time video monitoring of relief work from the General Headquarters.

While at the rescue site, Kayani lauded the motivation of rescue troops in face of tough conditions and extreme weather. (ANI)
