5.4-magnitude quake hits northwest Pakistan

Islamabad, March 31 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit northwest Pakistan Saturday morning, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

 

The quake took place at 9.16 a.m. local time. The epicentre is in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region with a focal depth of 212 km, Xinhua reported.

 

Tremors were felt in Pakistan's northwest Chitral, Malakand and other adjoining areas, the met department said.

 

No report about loss of lives or damage to property has been received yet.
