Congress party condemns killing of journalist in Madhya Pradesh
New Delhi, Feb.20 (ANI): The Congress party on Monday condemned the killing of journalist Chandrika Rai and his entire family.
Rai and his family were allegedly killed by the mining mafia in a Madhya Pradesh town.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi that the act was condemnable and swift action was needed to be taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government to nail the perpetrators of the crime.
"How can it be possible, that mafias can roam about freely and do this kind of thing to a journalist of all people and to the entire family? I think it needs to be condemned as the most reprehensible thing and unless and until concrete result is immediately shown, not promises, not speeches, but concrete results by the state government in showing actual apprehension and punishment in the swiftest possible time, I think it would be an unforgivable and unpardonable act," Singhvi said.
Chandrika Rai and his family were found dead at their residence in Umaria town.
Illegal coal mining has been rampant in the region and media reports suggested that the local mining mafia may have silenced Rai for writing against them. (ANI)
