Sanjay Dutt asks UP voters to support Congress

Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 20 (ANI): Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt on Monday urged the voters of Uttar Pradesh to give the Congress Party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi an opportunity to govern the state for development and progress.

Addressing a public gathering in Firozabad, Dutt said: "My father used to say that a person, who returns home by the end of the day after forgetting all wrongs, is considered sensible. I have returned home, the Congress is my home. I request you all to become sensible like me and return back home."

"22 years is a long time. Return back home and enable Hari Shankarji (Congress candidate) to win with a heavy margin of votes. Make Rahul Gandhi's hands even more stronger," he added.

Dutt, 53, was in the Samajwadi Party (SP) prior to joining the Congress.

The veteran actor also enthralled the crowd from the dialogues of his super hit flicks 'Munnabhai M.B.B.S.' and 'Agneepath', and drew their attention to the basic day to day problems being faced a common man in the country.

An estimated 57 percent votes were polled in the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on Sunday, which covered Rae Bareli, Amethi and part of backward Bundelkhand region.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
