Abbottabad Commission report to be delayed further over struggle to fix blame for raid

Islamabad, Feb 16(ANI): The Abbottabad Commission report will be delayed as the body continues to struggle to determine how and with whose help al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden had been living in the town for years.

The Pakistan Government formed the high-powered inquiry commission to probe Bin Laden's killing by US NavySeals in a secret raid on May 2, 2011.

Sources told The Express Tribune that the commission is struggling to fix responsibility.

"It looks like they can't and won't name anybody," an official said.

Abbottabad Commission chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal had earlier said that the report would be completed by the end of the year.

Officials privy to the inquiry attributed the delay to the question of naming and blaming those who were at the helm of affairs in the Abbottabad raid.

An official, who claimed to have had a discussion with one of the commission's members, said the probe had almost been completed by the end of 2011.

"They are beating about the bush now," the insider said.

According to an announcement by the commission's secretariat, a new date will soon be decided to have a session with Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik. (ANI)
