'No decision yet on granting US citizenship to Pak doc who aided CIA to track Osama'
Washington, Feb 7 (ANI): US State Department Spokesperson Victoria Nuland has said that the decision over granting US citizenship to Dr Shakil Afridi, the man who allegedly helped the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) track down former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in his Abbottabad hideout, was still pending.
"Congress resolution which is moving through the Congress now, it is not finalised yet. But generally, these kinds of moves on behalf of individuals... don't have force of law. It's a recommendation," The Express Tribune quoted Nuland, as saying.
A US Congressman had tabled a bill on Sunday to the House of Representatives asking that Dr Afridi be given 'a naturalised citizenship' of the US.
Afridi is under arrest in Pakistan and had allegedly organised a polio vaccination campaign in Abbottabad for the CIA to enter bin Laden's hidden den. (ANI)
