All-pace attack justifies Clarke's faith
Perth, Jan.14 (ANI): Australian captain Michael Clarke's decision to field a four-pronged pace attack against India in the third Test at the WACA here, appears to have been justified.
By bundling India out for 161 in its first innings and scoring 356 for the loss of eght wickets in reply at the time of the filing of this report, Clarke's decision to bowl first to a brittle Indian batting line-up has proved to be a right one.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the decision to field four fast bowlers should not be seen as a reflection on off-spinner Nathan Lyon's form, as he has not let anyone down in the first two Tests against the world's best players of spin, but more on the conditions.
The Perth pitch was green, though already showing some cracks in the hot weather, but offered prodigious pace and bounce to the fast bowlers, who backed up Clarke's uncharacteristic decision.
The decision paid handsome dividends in the first session, when Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir and the great Sachin Tendulkar were all removed before lunch.
he three lead fast bowlers, Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle, were superb, gaining more movement through the air than off the seam.
Siddle continued his remarkable transformation from workhorse to attack dog with the wickets of Dravid, Virat Kohli and V.V.S. Laxman, taking his tally of wickets for the summer to 18.
Hilfenhaus has 19 wickets in the series so far. So, he too has been a major success for Australia. (ANI)
