North-East Chief Ministers appeal to NRI's for investment

New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): The northeastern states have made a fervent appeal to the Indian diaspora to invest in key infrastructure to help the region prosper on a par with the rest of the country.

 

Addressing the ninth Pravasi Bhartiya Divas here recently, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said: "There was a huge demand for quality educational institutions and hospitals in the northeast and the diaspora can invest in a big way in these two sectors."

 

"Right policies are in place and now is the time to explore and participate in development of this region," he added.

 

With peace returning development is bound to happen, Pralab Baruah, a financial consultant said: "I see no reason why Assam cannot be a destination for the investors, whatever a decade ago the situation was, it has improved to a great extent and today peace is a reality in the region."

 

"People from this region are ready and they are well educated and I hope that every one does their best to make the region and country develop together," Lakshmikanta Laikangbam, IT Professional, USA.

 

Northeast has received special focus at the three-day annual conclave, being attended by nearly 2000 NRIs from over 40 countries, with the Centre projecting the region as an attractive destination for overseas investment.

 

The conclave was jointly organized under the aegis of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

 

The participants included renowned scientists, successful businessmen, well-known professors and many other influential people from across the globe.

 

Chief Ministers of Assam Tarun Gogoi, Mizoram Lal Thanhawla and Tripura Manik Sarkar also addressed the conclave and highlighted the advantages industries can avail in the region. (ANI)
