Brits to be slapped with ?5k fine if they leave bin out for too long!

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

London, Sept 28 (ANI): Homeowners will be slapped with a fine of 5,000 pounds if they leave their bins out for too long, according to a new British law.New council-employed bin wardens will patrol the streets, and dish out 100 pounds fixed penalty notices, and if the recipient does not clear it in two weeks, they could be dragged to court, branded with a criminal record and fined up to 5,000 pounds.

The only way homeowners can escape the fine is if they put out their bins only the night before the bin men do their rounds, pick them up promptly after the refuse collection, and keeping them in the right place.

The fine could also be imposed on families who don't leave the wheelie bins in allotted spaces outside their homes.

The law came about after it was seen that the rubbish overflowing onto the street could be a hazard to pedestrians, especially the blind or mums with pushchairs.

The new plan will be put on trial by councils in the North before it is rolled out to others if successful.

"This government seems intent on forcing bin fines, bin taxes and the axing of weekly collections, against the will of the hard-pressed public," News of the World quoted Local Government Minister Bob Neill as saying.

The latest move follows a crackdown, which has seen residents fined for putting normal waste into recycling bins, and hauled into court for leaving lids slightly open. (ANI)
