Controversial CD, BJP changed adversity into advantage

Delhi, Mon, 09 Apr 2007 Sadiq Ali

April 09: Right wing, Bharatiya Janta Party, the pioneers of Hindutva, seems to be strengthening its position by the misery created following its launch of controversial anti-minority CD.

Till now political parties in Uttar Pradesh were majorly against Mulayamâ??s government or part of it. But with the provocative material it has shifted as anti-Muslims and pro-Muslims. The release of the CD has proved once again that BJPâ??s prime agenda is to secure the interests of the majority and thereby establish goodwill and support for the larger Hindu community.

However, there has been a mixed reaction from the alleged party and the government. Congress and its former ally, former prime minister V P Singh, are demand party to be derecognized. At the same time BJP is trying to portray itself as the victim. As echoed by its patriarchs since the eruption of the CD controversy, the party spokesman says that they are being victimized by through election commission and Congress is trying to give a fillip to its â??appease minoritiesâ?? campaign.

Election Commission has filed an FIR against BJP regarding the release of CD containing anti-minority especially anti-Muslim contents. It is popularly believed that the Party leaders allegedly released the CD in Uttar Pradesh to win back its bastion within Hindu heartland.

People saw it as an immediate action by the commission which is responsible for the conduct of present seven phased state assembly elections. Now observers from different party circles have started raising questions about the whole process. Sources, who work for Congress, told Newstrack India: â??The hype around the CD is helping BJP more than anybody else. They do not have any constituency among Muslims and by propagating ideologies they are winning back hard core factions of the majority community and are portraying the picture of Hindutva once again.â??

The CDs being distributed mainly in the rural areas of the state, is creating problems for the EC and those who want to recover them. Now with the hype that BJP has created, it is trying to forward its agenda without any extra effort. Partyâ??s rivals in the state as well as in the centre are also trying to extract maximum benefit by portraying themselves as the protectors of minorities especially Muslims.
Luring minorities by anti-BJP bastion may help but for BJP the controversial CD is proving just another Yatra.
