Investigation to date in Delhi serial blasts

A day after Delhi Police Joint Commissioner Karnail Singh linked the Sep 13 blasts in the national capital New Delhi to the November 2007 Varanasi bomb blasts; the investigation is now leading the involvement of militants arrested to the serial blasts in Bangalore and Jaipur.


On Monday, a team of Delhi police special cell has arrived in Udupi in Karnataka as the explosive used in Delhi blasts are believed to have come from Karnataka.

Earlier in the day, officers of Delhi Police and Intelligence Bureau had gone to Manipal with a detained terrorist as a part of an ongoing probe. The militant was believed to be a student of Sikkim Manipal University that provides investigation through correspondence. However, probe officials declined to comment on any further development.

As per reports, police is in search of another six suspects based on the interrogation of terrorists in custody.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Police has claimed that Mohammad Bashir a.k.a. Atif – killed in Friday’s encounter – was the mastermind of serial blasts in Jaipur. The May 13 blasts in the Pink City had left 63 people dead.

On Sunday, the Delhi Police had arrested three suspected terrorists at Jamia Nagar in South Delhi. It is reported that arrested Zia ur Rehman (22), Mohammad Shakeel (24) and Saqib Nissar (25) have confessed to their involvement in the Delhi blasts.

Since the Friday encounter in which security officers gunned down two dreaded militants Atif and Mohammad Fakruddin, a total of five have been held in custody.

Police have already said that the militant outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) and the Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) are supported by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militant group.
