New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): The organizing committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010 and the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) announced on Thursday the launch of the project 'Low Carbon Campaign for the Games.
Developed with the assistance of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the project aims at promoting the campaign as a means of a behavioural change amongst the citizens, athletes and the visitors for the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices.he GEF project supports and strengthens the mandate of the games.
Sudhir Mittal, Special Director General of the Organising Committee, said that through the campaign the organizing committee is making an endeavor to spread the message of conserving the earth.
"The main aim is to sensitise and make people aware. As like the joint secretary was telling us that earth is one and rather than re-generation we are only consuming. We are consuming more than what we are re-generating. But we should re-generate more than what we are consuming, "said Mittal.
The project aims at developing activities like campaigns, trainings, plantations, awareness through green concerts, low carbon fairs for students, teachers and citizens.t is also expected to enhance consciousness towards energy conservation resulting in low emission of Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
It is estimated that the project would indirectly contribute to a reduction of 155,844 tonnes of CO2 annually. (ANI)
