Patna, Sept 16 (ANI): Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar will visit the flood-affected regions in Bihar today.

During her visit, Kumar will visit Saharsa and Supol and will also inspect the work being done in relief camps, which are being run by the Ministry.

The Minister is also scheduled to brief the press about the current situation in flood affected areas and the relief work being carried out by the relief camps set up by the Ministry.

She will be accompanied by Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment, K.M. Acharya and other senior officials of the Ministry.

On Monday, the Chairman of Special Task force on Bihar Dr. S C Jha said that flood affected districts of the States need an assistance of 25000 crore rupees for rehabilitation work.

Dr. Jha said flood has affected about three million people in the state and extensive efforts are required to rebuild the region.

Around 25 lakh people of Bihar have been rendered homeless due to the worst ever floods caused by the Kosi river.

The flooding, the worst in 50 years, was caused after the Kosi River breached a dam in Nepal. This unleashed huge waves of water that smashed mud embankments downstream in Bihar. (ANI)
