More than 300 people trapped, 12, 300 evacuated in China floods

Beijing, July 18 (ANI): The Chinese authorities have confirmed that more than 300 people are trapped in floods in China's Chongqing Municipality, while12, 300 others have been evacuated till reports came in last on Sunday morning.

 

According to English.news.cn, the city's Tongnan County Government has said that three townships- Chongkan, Tai'an and Baizi and some other villages were affected by floods on Saturday. Chongkan Township was out of contact due to destruction of facilities of communication and roads.

 

"At least 600 residents are trapped, but no casualties have been reported so far," Tongnan County Government said.

 

The County Government also stated that Tongnan has been covered by floods because of heavy rains which pounded the upper reaches of Qiongjiang River since Saturday morning, driving up the water level in the river's section by 5.8 meters within four hours in the region.

 

The statistics given by Chongqing municipal flood control office show that Chongkan township had a rainfall of 96 millimeters, while Baizi township had 56 millimeters of rainfall since Friday morning.

 

The flood inflicted economic losses of 13.8 million Yuan in Tongnan county alone.

 

Rescue operations were going on till reports came in on Sunday morning. (ANI)
