Srinagar, Sept 12 (ANI): Thousands of protesters led by Muhammad Yasin Malik chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), clashed with police in Srinagar on Friday.

The protesters had gathered on the call of the joint co-ordination committee of the two factions of the separatist Hurriyat Conference that had called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers across the Kashmir Valley.

With posters of Malik in their hands, protesters shouted slogans against the Government.

Later, when the protesters turned violent and clashed with the police, security personnel resorted to teargas and baton charges to disperse the demonstrators.

Malik, who was leading a sit-in protest of about 4000 people after the Friday prayers was injured during the clash between the protesters and the police.

Malik, who reportedly had received a baton blow on his legs, was rushed to hospital for treatment. (ANI)
