London, June 2 (ANI): Elizabeth Taylor has made public a series of never-before-seen love letters she received from Richard Burton which gives new insight into their passionate but turbulent romance.

In the letters, Burton bared his soul, and even suggested committing suicide if she leaves him, saying he is infatuated and cannot live without her, reports The Telegraph.

"If you leave me I shall have to kill myself. There is no life without you," Burton wrote.

The letters revealed that the Welsh star used a series of pet names to describe Taylor including "My Lumps," "Dearest Scrupelshrumpilstilskin," and "Twit Twaddle." He signed himself "Husbs."

In one letter he praises Taylor's acting while describing the profession as "sissified and ridiculous" for a "really proper man."

Extracts from the love letters will be published in Vanity Fair and are taken from a book Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century.

Taylor showed the letters to the authors Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger.

In one letter Burton wrote: "One of these days I will wake up - which I think I have done already - and realise to myself that I really do love. Who invented that concept? I have wracked my shabby brains and can find no answer."

In another he called Taylor "probably the best actress in the world" and praised her "extraordinary and unique beauty."

Romance between the two began on the set of Cleopatra in 1961 when both were already married. They wed in 1964 but divorced in 1974. The following year they remarried in a remote village in Botswana, but they were divorced again less than a year later. (ANI)
