Pune, Apr 11 (ANI): With an aim popularizing Japanese dolls in India, a man from Pune showcased a variety of handmade Japanese dolls in an exhibition on Saturday.

Jayant Sathe, who organised the exhibition, runs a small factory where the dolls are being manufactured on a small scale.

"Two-three years back, when Japanese dolls made their debut in Indian markets, we thought we could make these dolls better than them so why not make them? So we started (making) these dolls. Now we make these dolls everyday in our factory. Its specialty is that it's handmade, and it doesn't have a mass production," said Sathe.

Locals enjoyed watching the colourful, delicate dolls.

"It's very nice and pretty...has been done very nicely. The work is simply exquisite.... One can see the Japanese culture in it...the colours, what kind of clothes they wear...all that is depicted," said Meera Rai, a visitor.

Japanese dolls are of many kinds and represent a wide range of characters, from babies to persons of the imperial court, to heroes and gods. (ANI)
