Akmal brothers appeal against fine imposed by PCB

Lahore, Thu, 08 Apr 2010 ANI

Lahore, Apr.8 (ANI): Pakistan wicket keeper Kamran Akmal and his batsman brother Umer Akmal have appealed against the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to impose a hefty fine on them.

"The Akmal brothers have filed appeals against the penalties in person without support of any counsel, so now an independent arbitrator will deal with the matter," The Daily Times quoted a PCB spokesperson, as saying.

The PCB had slapped a three million rupees fine on Kamran and two million rupees fine on Umer besides putting them on six months probation following a report of the inquiry committee which accused them of violating the players' code of conduct during the Australia tour, where Pakistan lost all the three Tests and five one-day games, and also a T20 match.

Earlier, former captain Shoaib Malik, who was banned for one year and slapped with a two-million rupee fine, sent a notice to the PCB seeking clarifications on the punishment.

Fast bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, who was also banned for one year, had already sent a legal notice to the board over the issue.

The PCB had given 30-day time to players to appeal against their respective punishments. The deadline ends on April 16. (ANI)
